The Carsington 7+ race was started in 2012 by two trustees of Derby & District RSPCA who were avid runners. The first race had just over 100 runners and it was a very wet race!
Since then the race has grown and, due to its success, Derby & District RSPCA has now passed the organisation and management of the race to the same organisers as the Wilne 10k and Derby 10 Mile but it still remains the headline charity and provides on-the-day race support.
The event has grown to a sell-out number of 600 in 2019.
In March 2020, Covid-19 hit the UK and resulted in lockdowns. The Carsington 7+ was one of the very few races to take place in September 2020 under tight controls yet it was dubbed as a huge success.
Covid-19 had an impacted on entry numbers yet we are pleased that retention numbers have been good and we are pleased to see entries in 2023 return to similar numbers as seen in 2019.
